I can hear every other open-world game dev crying bitter tears about how hard it's gonna be to steal that fusion mechanic -R
I hope not, it's not any different than the ways you'd implement equipment on a character.
@Bit Universe and also elden ring took inspiration from it
@Kay Nintendo are one of the if not the best game "developers" in the world. The craft of game development does involve graphics and such. But, moreso, it involves novel ideas. Nintendo just has such a creative team working for them. With beautiful ideas and the appropriate amount of polish. As someone who works in the industry its beautiful to see.
@Bruno Castelar do u ever played skyrim zelda botw and skyrim has zero similarities
Minecraft wins straight 😍
I have never wanted to play something so badly in my life. I need May to get here NOW.
@HotSauce300 same 😂
This will be my birthday present from me to me 😊
Speedruns of this game are gonna be absolutely bonkers, especially with that ascend ability. If runners in BOTW were able to use stasis and shield riding to bounce across the entire map in seconds its gonna be insane to see how runners use ascend and fuse
Its just gonna be another glitch that let's you fly across the map lol
Assuming the final boss is as accesible, of course.
YOu read my thoughts.
Devs: we need to put an end to this windbomb madness
@Aeronovus Screw playing games the intended way, that's lame
They took their time and gave open world players a ton of new ways to explore. This looks incredible!
@Kaishakunin4Hire it’s a sequel with changes, stop crying about it
@Kaishakunin4Hire yeah the exact same map with ZERO malice
@Kaishakunin4Hire And your still gonna get it
@Daniel D Right? Imagine seeing 10 minutes of pre recorded gameplay and assuming you just saw 6 years worth development time.
@Kaishakunin4Hire 10 mins of gameplay. Quit crying
the fact that you dont need any tool to combine weapons and objects together and you can do it real time without any extra menu to popup is fantastic In terms of ux and gameplay designing !
He showed just a snippet of this gargantuan game, and it already blew me away. The devs know they have something special here, and I'm starting to love and appreciate why they're trying to keep a lot of the game a surprise
@Mordor so you've played the game then? Wow!
@Mordor 🤓
@Mordor Bro hasnt watched the Trailer💀
The Fuse ability is insane. The Possiblities you'll have with it, is astonishing
@Teodor Caraba complaining for the sake of complaining? you're a fake fan.
@Dwaid Ciamhaits you say this as a joke, but I think this is literally what the main gimmick of the game will be. Those sky islands will have mini-dungeons inside them that you can combine in different ways.
@Teodor Caraba or you just lack imagination and creativeness
@Teodor Caraba durability dingus
I love watching Aonuma play because he’s like a little father being like “what’s that? Do you guys see that?” Knowing full well what something does
And we’re like little kids being like “ :o what is it? Show us Mr. Aonuma!! I want to see how it works!”
It's like watching a Dora episode lol
True 😂
I love that the lifting ability is called Ultrahand. It's named after one of Nintendo's old toys! Good reference!
@BioMutarist No, it was literally called the ultra-hand, and it was a product made exclusively for the Japanese toy market back before Nintendo pivoted to video games. It was an accordioning pincer-claw thing that you could use to grab stuff from far away.
@BioMutarist Literally the "ultra hand" plastic extending hand toy.
which one, the Power Glove?
Thank you Mr. Aonuma for showing us all Tears of The Kingdom gameplay! It looks like so much to play!
I can't even begin to imagine about the possibilities the fuse ability presents for puzzles. Maybe we will see proper dungeons that have their own unique gimmicks with fusing different things to solve puzzles!
The moment when you realize that just the "eyeball" scene alone is much much more creative then most open world games as a whole.
Imagine five-shot bow with the eyeball.
😂
Was kinda hoping we were going to get a first person guided missile type ability. Not a homing missile.
i know this game is gonna change my life again like breath of the wild did
@ilavain Fair tho, we gotta wait and see.👀
@Jonathan I'm mostly just joking but I won't lie after botw having basically 0 story in concerned about that aspect given the seeming doubling down on the open exploration.
Have you played any other Zelda games besides btow
@CaptainSeaRager Isn't Zelda so much deeper than Nuts and Bolts because of all its narrative and emotional background? And doesn't its art rise far above the heights of Banjo Kazooie? What is your opinion? I'm not attacking you. I'm on friendly terms here. 😉
@UnforgivenElder Very well said (not judging why someone speaks about a game changing their own life, etc.)!
New landscapes, new mechanics; and we can enhance less desirable equipment to be more effective!? This is beyond perfect!😃
i was a little underwhelmed at first but finished this smiling…..i know i’m going to love this game.. they’re so creative and the fact that they’re still so guarded abt this game makes me very hopeful
The way the game has officially fixed the durability system is brilliant. The demonstration was perfect. We all know that infamous “Weapon is low on durability” pop up. We knew it was there. Then the Rock is added to the stick and it lasts longer. This game ROCKS!
This is incredible, I love how creative the developers are and how they every new ability feels so refreshing for it all! So excited for the release!
I didnt think they would be able to top Breath of the Wild so easily. Clearly it wasnt so easy because these new mechanics must have taken a lot of work to develop! The game looks wonderful!
Nintendo saw that people were flying around by using multiple objects together, so they decided to embrace the idea and add the Fuse ability. Absolutely incredible. The sheer amount of crazy inventions we'll see from that ability is going to be nuts.
@Enrique Salazar-Turner Banjo-Kazooie walked? Where? The nearest Union office? lol Kidding.
@b samoong Then why was Mister Aonuma's inventory practically empty of any weapons? It looks like a game restart or a new game entirely. Would he not have needed to go through the entire game first before showing this, if it is just DLC? And somebody else mentioned it costing $80...
@Alex Yes,YES,YES!!!
@Kurokoro Nah
@vang-tou Lee word👍
The crap other companies get a way with these days…
The raft is a total throwback to Zelda 1. Love that little detail!!
I love that the fusion hand ability basically tells us that they saw players making flying machines with boxes and minekarts and went "Write that down! WRITE THAT DOWN!!"
Beyond hyped for this!!!!!! I really hope for more temples and significant items required for certain tasks. Man, this is gonna be phenomenal.
The speedruns in this game are going to be insane!
Oh man. What an incredible world they've built. I'm so excited.
One thing that struck me with the first game was just how unbelievably creative the fans were. Between electric flying minecarts and sneaking on enemy's heads to jump, people were able to come up with a super incredible range of ideas that I never would've thought of. I'm so glad this game seems to be catering to and encouraging that out of the box thinking.
@Replicant 2049 Its not a coincidence, there is only a cult following of speed runners because of the creative and fun techniques in the ru.
That's literally any game with a cult following specially when speed-runners get involved.
Enemies
The engine's capability of doing all these weird things is part of what made Breath of the Wild so incredible, so it is definitely nice to see they not only noticed this, but catered to those fans.
@Magolord no doubt, and i'm sure once Tears is out for a few weeks, its developers will be stunned with creations they never thought of during the entire development process
I want this game. Not as a zelda fan. Not for the story. But fundamentally it just looks like its going to be an absolute pleasure to play. An unbelievable leap forward from what ground BoTW already made. Thank you Nintendo
Seriously never felt excited for a game in my whole life. I genuinely felt that excitement I got as a kid near Xmas. I'm now 34 and I'm glad that emotion is still present and I'm thankful to feel it again can't wait to play this for the entire year I'm gonna scout everything I humainly can before the endoss on my first run to truly appreciate this beautiful game
11:47 can we just acknowledge how cool it was that they even accounted for how big the splash should be, and that they even made the splash drops rain back down
tbf the drop would have flattened a tank but still cool
I can't wait! Congratulations to the whole team, the new features are mind blowing, you created something really special and awesome!
I am very excited to see how the story unfolds, and this combat looks super fun. Personally I'm glad they brought back the durability mechanic because it made me strategize how to use my weapons in combat. Fusions going to add a whole new layer to this and I'm so excited for it. 🤘
i'm just imagining how many more years players will take to continue finding new fun things to do in the game until we reach the next one, freaking impressive!
@Spaurtacus You are right. I apologize. I will try and learn from this. Thank you
@b samoong Kinda ironic to get defensive yourself. You cant question other people getting defensive when you went on the offence first, and honestly learn to have some fun yourself ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
@PopRocks defending a billion dollar company is my passion and I will keep doing it till my dying breath. I just love Nintendo so much!!!!
@Cameron Williams How is it flawed? Is Tears of the Kingdom the last ever Zelda game? They didn't say we'd have to wait. They were estimating that there will be enough new stuff for savvy players to figure out to heartily hold us over until the next Zelda game in 5 or so years.
@b samoong bro you have 95 comments on this channel get a life 💀
You guys took my favorite game in the series cranked it up to 11 and then broke the knob off. Well done. I’m beyond excited
this is what i wanted to see. the trailers didn't give me really anything to be super exited for but seeing the new powers and a hint for how crazy they are has me more then ready.
Wow the fuse ability instantly makes every in game item more important and therefore relevant to collect. I always hate games where you end up with a massive item inventory that you barely ever use so this was a great way to improve on that. This game looks incredible. Between TOTK and FFXVI I'm going to be struggling to bother going outside this summer. lol
I’m so excited for this game! These abilities look so fun!
I’ve waited so long for this game and now the anticipation is top tier!
Wow. They somehow managed to address the two biggest concerns people had with the first game (climbing being boring and durability being eh) without removing them or trivializing the mechanic. Sincerely impressive.
Now lower the boost from cooking. 5 hearty Dorian to get 21 hearts is broken
@Duck Invadersthis
I hope they've addressed that in totk. I want fun boss fights and dungeons.
Climbing was pretty slow, but I never had a probably with durability. The secret is always using your lowest damage weapon. They are everywhere in the game, so you can never run out, and you never have to touch your high damage weapons until you need them. When your lowest dmg weapon breaks, go to the next lowest damage one. If you pick one up, that is lower switch to that one. If you find something stronger with your inventory full, throw away your weakest one and use the next weakest. Doing this cycle will allow you to fill up your inventory full of strong weapons. Do this for bows and shields too.
@NCR Veteran Ranger Something like the Divine Beasts with no loading into blue rooms and seamlessly go in and out of it would be best, maybe something like when you enter it the windows will show the actual open world and if its sunrise or night outside, it will be the same inside
@No Name Passerby A but this is The Legend of Zelda, you know, a game series that's revolved around dungeons since the first game in 1986?
Having all this overworld content is just a plus to the game, people have been wanting traditional dungeons even in BOTW. The Divine beasts served as the dungeons, but they didn't really do it for many. They can't just make a Zelda game without puzzle filled dungeons.
I can’t remember the last time I audibly oohed at a game trailer. This looks like it’s going to be incredibly fun!
What excellent mechanics they've put in! Definitely gonna be something else! Can't wait for the release...
im crying over how amazing this game is going to be
Incredible! So excited to play this. I just hope these new abilities won't lessen the challenge the first game could have
This game looks as beautiful as I imagined,So excited to discover all the new mechanics,Especially excited for over-world music and new abilities🔥💙
That fuse ability is even crazier than I originally imagined. We are going to be seeing videos years after the game comes out of people finding the best fuse combination or combining things that are across the map.
@Garrett Cooper I think they're saying the stick would break.
Not to mention the moding potential!
@Reborn Reaperpostle [1st of The 12, Archbishop] To be fair I didn't watch the gameplay yet when I made that comment but it shrunk the rock so maybe it doesn't weigh as much as it use to.
@Gabriel North It is a very large rock here though.
But wouldn't say it's too much more ridiculous than some chunky weapons we saw last time
Can't wait to see someone build a city with it or a giant tower.
Link truly is indestructible, diving from that height
The more I watch this, the more insane these new abilities seem. I've never seen anything like this in a game before! The only thing I worry a bit about is the visuals and performance but I guess we will see when it releases!
its crazy how the sequel pretty much enforce you to use the environment to traverse it making the open world a huge puzzle in itself
With the new world being so big, its going to be so fun exploring it with these new game mechanics!
The QA effort on this for Fuse & Ascend abilities alone must've been huge! What a feat
With the Ascend ability, imagine a completely sealed secret cavern: You’re in a cave, you want to go to the mountaintop, so you use Ascend. But instead of popping up at the top, you pop up in a secret sealed cavern that you didn’t know was above you the whole time.
Imagine a dungeon or quest with puzzles that gives you clues to where these secret caverns are located.
or imagine if they forgot one tiny bit and you pop out where you shouldn't and soft lock the game? I don't think they'd do this kind of things.... but there is a spot in BOTW where all the cel shading disappears, so we can only hope for the better
the dungeon with this mechanic as its gimmick will be the next water temple lol
I could imagine being in Death Mountain and ascending through a cave... into a pit of lava. Lol
Oh no, it’s Elden Rings hidden walls all over again!
This feels like somethng a HAL Labs game would do while giving you minimal hints on how to find the right spot
Okay something I feel like isn’t being talked about enough is the snippets of the OST we heard. I’m so excited to hear the whole thing ☺️
Loving what you’ve shown off so far! Fuse has me blown away!
Link running around with the super long spear is legitimately hilarious.
EDIT: OK, Link diving a thousand feet in the air and landing in the river was even more hilarious.
Absolutely insane. I cannot even imagine how much the Nintendo team has worked on these game mechanics. Well done Nintendo!
Which games?
These mechanics are already in other games.
This is the most excited I’ve been for a game in a long time
I love how they saw people fly with a mine cart and made it a freaking feature.that’s so sick
@Over Toasted i mean so many mminecraft stuff used to come from copying mods lol
@void09 oh okay thanks
@Littlefish prob no mans sky
@Over Toasted what is nms
It has the same energy as fans inspiring the Minecraft and NMS devs adding in features just for the fans to play around with more
There is seriously hours and hours and hours of exploration! hope we have the shrines back in this game I loved the puzzles
Another masterpiece. Loving the new gameplay editions
Man that Fuse ability 😲 The best thing I've seen for Link. Imagine the possibilities of all the things you can fuse together 🤔 You might be able to use fuse on the Master 🗡️ or the Hyrule 🛡️ can you see all the things that could fuse onto them
The things people are going to build in this game are going to be insane
Hyped for this. So glad they've added such innovative abilities. I'm gonna fuse everything I see.
The amount of insane things people are gonna pull off with these new abilities is endless, can’t wait to see it
If some ppl do crazy things in botw i can't imagine with this one haha
I’ve only seen 10 minutes and I want it now!!! This is better than any crafting system I could have ever come up with!
Oh that was amazing, I can't wait to play!!! I'm so excited about all of this - thank you for taking the time to develop this game fully.
This looks amazing! Can’t wait to play!
I've been saving up my rupees for this game for months! I'm glad they finally released a gameplay demonstration! 🎉
I was already excited for this game....now I'm REALLY excited! May 12th can't come soon enough! 😳
The new abilities are going to make speedruns of this hilarious - can’t wait to see what people come up with
You all have to remember that BOTW was meant to serve as a new foundation for Zelda going forward so they weren't going to get everything right from the get go. This looks to be a more refined experience. There are some possibilities in the franchise out there that we didn't get a chance to see quite yet honestly.
Great Plateau skip confirmed
@Dr Frankenthot that shoots really long rakes, right?
@chiffmonkey I'm already imagining people building moving battle tanks lmao
@Richard Mahn You can hit ganon from faron with a superrake
10000% GOTY already, promoting player creativity by fusing materials to create new weapons is by FAR the best way to earn a special place in people’s hearts
Anyone else notice that his second bow shot almost hit the bird on its way down?! That would have been pretty epic.
Dude that fuse mechanic is actually so cool. I can't wait for this game!!
Lol I love how no matter how high up link is, and whether he is above water or not, he is always willing to dive. 😍
The complexity of the puzzles/trials are going to be lit with these new abilities.
I like how they knew freedom was what made Breath of the Wild amazing, and in Tears of the Kingdom, they just expand upon it.
Nah. The grounded-ness of the world and exploring it within the already well-defined rules were what made it. This is Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts of the Wild.
The Legend of Zelda: Nuts and Bolts how it should have been,
You all have to remember that BOTW was meant to serve as a new foundation for Zelda going forward so they weren't going to get everything right from the get go. This looks to be a more refined experience. There are some possibilities in the franchise out there that we didn't get a chance to see quite yet honestly.
🎉😮😮😮🎉😮😮😮🎉😮😮😮🎉
@Maria CANCER best of wishes to you ❤🙏
This is crazy, I can't wait to play this game!
I love Link's diving animation when he jumped off the sky block, and his hair. Oh and the gameplay looks dope, too.
These new abilities got me hyped for the new enemies/bosses 🤯.
Lynel: shall, hero, prepare to die... what is that?
Link, wielding a branch with a rock and the master sword stuck to it:
THE ULTIMATE WEAPON!
Lynel:... that resurrection shrine gave you brain damage, didn't it...
I hope we'll get a lot of cool dungeons and puzzles that are possible with the fuse mechanic.
I cannot wait. This is my most anticipated game, ever. Please Nintendo, make this the best one yet!
I love the Fuse ability. Lots of monster parts were basically irrelevant midgame for a non completionist botw run. They basically became just something to sell for the most part but the problem is you don't really need lots of money in botw during normal gameplay
@Anonymous you can duplicate arrows with a five shot bow at the cooking pot in Kara Kara Bazaar
Other than buying arrows, but for some reason the game puts a cap on those
What I like most about this is how they're not trying to completely innovate the game and make something entirely different. They've taken everything about botw that we enjoy and are expanding upon us. This game is going to be huge.
very excited to see the new long stick, it's definitely going to revolutionize gameplay
By reusing some of the same assets and mechanics as BOTW, they were able to add so many more creative elements to this game!
Reminds me of Majora's Mask in that sense.
Although there are a few things we haven't seen, namely traditional Zelda dungeons making their return, the underground, or even much of the story... they've taken all the steps in the right direction so far, and boy am I glad they've decided to keep a lot under wraps until the full games' release this time! 🤞 Can't wait, 5/12 can't come soon enough.
This looks so cool! I wonder if there will be a descend ability to travel below Hyrule, too.
Seeing that you can fuse stuff to shields makes me wonder if they can have special mechanics when shield surfing as well as in combat
Yeah, when he showed the mushroom + shield combo I thought it's gonna bounce if he surfs
@angeldude101 Have you not seen at least some of those Speedrun videos where they literally skyrocket after shield bumping on an exploding bomb? xD
@Pal läo It was a BotW glitch? I thought you were referencing the super sliding and bomb hovering from OoT and MM.
I imagine you could make a sled that has spears attached to the front of it.
This game looks amazing.
Shield + bomb + surfing?
that ascend ability is going to be a great source of glitches, i can't wait to see them
I initially was worried about the game since it didn't seem too different from BOTW at the beginning of this gameplay, but the fuse ability alone made the price tag make sense that is genuinely one of the coolest and much more creative abilities of not only the Zelda series but games in general, I cannot wait for this game.
Wacky creativity! Can’t wait to spend a ton of time making so many different combinations. Adds even more replay-ability. I wasn’t expecting for us to see very deep into the game so showing off new mechanics like this was perfecttttt. Theres still so much mystery but this is very neat and doesn’t spoil anything.
Can’t wait to see how people use their imaginations here like in BOTW! The memories this’ll create will be legendary.
The mechanical depth at play here is off the charts. The weapon fusing and vehicle creation looks super intuitive. I'm still just so iffy on exploring the same map as the first game. Both times we were on the surface I could immediately identify where he was and noticed very little had changed of either area. Really sucks for a game where exploration is so crucial. Hopefully more time is spent in the sky than is readily apparent
Speedruns gonna be fun
WHAT IN THE NAME OF HYRULE!!!
I can already see the glitches people are gonna do with the fuse mechanic
Easy
"okay by fusing a paperclip and a piece of string, I'm going to exploit this feature to beat the whole game in 1 minute" - Pointcrow, probably
That fuse ability is INSANE!!!
Absolutely incredible!
Imagine the insanity level of the puzzles you can tackle with this mechanic
Just got home from work and watching with a huge smile. This game looks amazing
INSANE! When I watched an earlier promotion video that Link was driving a vehicle thing, I had no idea it could be actually BUILT by ourselves using a fusion ability! It’s more than a new Botw, can’t wait!!
I can't imagine how difficult something like the fuse ability would be to program, considering how many options the game gives the player. It's impressive even from a purely technical standpoint, they've clearly done a lot of work on their engine. I was impressed by the very stable-looking performance as well, looked like a pretty fluid 30 fps
@Alex I thankfully finished my CS and EE studies close to a decade ago, but it's cute how you think well established design paradigms somehow don't apply to a brand new games.
@Alejandro Salazardoes CS 101 and thinks they a pro.
It was only really possible to do because they essentially recycled the entirety of the previous game's world.
I don't think the trade is worthwhile, since the world being recycled makes it lose all of its exploration value. And they didn't even fix the terrible durability system, they only supplemented it
@Standard Username I mean you saw the gameplay footage, looks like a stable 30fps to me
Combinatoral Explosion. Programming a behavior for every item is one thing, but programming a behavior for every _combination_ of items? That's borderline impossible without creating some standardized interface, but that interface would also limit the ways that things could be put together. Regardless, you're going to have to compromise somewhere, and creating something so impressive in spite of those challenges is astonishing.
I am grinning from ear to ear. I cant wait to get this game.
The puzzle potential is really cool!
Breath of The Wild was eclipsed by so many open worlds since it’s release so it’s amazing to see Tears of The Kingdom innovating and pushing the boundaries even if it’s being held back by switch hardware.
